In 1992, two aspiring bakers named Mary Louise Clemens and Christina Winkler got together to form the Two Little Red Hens bakery. They operated solely out of the Farmer's Market for a full year until they were able to open their own shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

As time passed, the Two Little Red Hens' reputation grew until it was acknowledged as one of the best bakeries in the city by such authorities as the New York Times. Their growth and popularity was so great, it allowed them to open up another shop in Yorkville, Manhattan in 2001.

After continuing on in this fashion for five years, the two partners decided to amicably split ways in 2006. Mary Louise kept the original Brooklyn location but with a new name. "Ladybird Bakery" was a name she selected with help from her many loyal customers. It is the same great bakery with the same famous cheesecake, Brooklyn Blackout cake, and specialty cakes — the bakery Brooklynites have loved for more than 15 years.
